Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division

Buffalo Sabres

Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings' opening roster has $573k in projected cap space with 23 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 3 goalies). This can accommodate a $2.6m annual cap hit at the trade deadline without any additional moves.

Their cap includes a $3.8m dead cap hit from Holl's buried salary ($2.25m) and buyouts for Abdelkader ($1.06m) and Yamamoto ($533k).

Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers' opening roster has $130k in projected cap space with 22 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $596k annual cap hit at the trade deadline without any moves.

Their cap includes a $1.74m dead cap hit from the Yandle buyout ($1.24m) and a $500k bonus overage.

Montreal Canadiens

The #GoHabsGo sent Xhekaj/Struble for opening roster.  It is $992K over cap with 21 (14F/5D/2G)

LTIR: Harvey-Pinard $1.1M
IR: Price $10.5M, Laine $8.7M

They're $108K within optimal LTIR capture.

Can add $10.5M cap space w/ Price to LTIR & call guys up

Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators' opening roster has $871k in projected cap space with 23 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $4m annual cap hit at the trade deadline without making any moves.

On Season-Opening Injured Reserve (SOIR): Highmore

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning's season opening roster is expected to have $618k in projected cap space with 22 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). Without any roster moves, they can accommodate an additional $2.8m annual cap hit at the trade deadline.

There is no dead cap hit.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs' opening roster is $4.34m over the cap with 23 active players (13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies).

On Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR): Jarnkrok ($2m), Hakanpaa ($1.47m), Mermis ($775k)
On Injured Reserve: Dewar ($1.18m)
On Season-Opening Injured Reserve (SOIR): Minten ($77k)

They’re just $1 away from optimal LTIR relief. Adding Dewar or Minten to LTIR could create an additional $1.26m in cap space.

Metropolitan Division

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes' opening roster is $774,997 over the cap with 22 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies).

On Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR): Stillman ($775k)
On Injured Reserve: Fast ($2.4m)

They’re just $3 away from optimal LTIR relief. Adding Fast to LTIR could provide an additional $2.4m in cap space.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets' opening roster has $20m in projected cap space with 23 active players (13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $93m annual cap hit at the trade deadline (!!!) without making any moves.

On Injured Reserve: Jenner, Danforth, and Voronkov
On Season-Opening Injured Reserve: Brindley

Their cap includes a $2m cap hit for Gaudreau.

New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils' opening roster has $442k in projected cap space with 21 players (13 forwards, 6 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $2m annual cap hit at the trade deadline without making any moves.

On Injured Reserve: Pesce and Hughes
On Season-Opening Injured Reserve (SOIR): Beckman and Hatakka

Their cap includes a $1.8m dead cap hit, consisting of $250k for the Kovalchuk buyout and a $1.54m bonus overage.

New York Islanders

The New York Islanders' opening roster has $212.5k in projected cap space with 22 active players (13 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $971k annual cap hit at the trade deadline without making any moves.

Their cap includes a $1.85m dead cap hit for Engvall's buried contract.

New York Rangers

The New York Rangers made several moves leading up to the opening roster:

  • Edstrom, Rempe, Cuylle, Mancini, and Berard were sent down.
  • Leschyshyn, Sykora, Blidh, and Harpur were called up.
  • Robertson stayed up.

The roster is $792K over the cap, with Vesey on LTIR ($800K) and Lindgren on IR ($4.5M). They’re $8K short of optimal LTIR relief.

On Wednesday, the Rangers could:

  • Send down Leschyshyn, Sykora, Blidh, Harpur, and Robertson.
  • Call up Edstrom, Rempe, Cuylle, and Mancini.

This would leave them with $545K in cap space within LTIR.

Alternatively, they could place Lindgren on LTIR, which would free up an additional $4.5M in cap space.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers' season opening roster has $2.2m in projected cap space with 23 active players (14 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies).

On Injured Reserve: Ellis

Their cap includes an $11.7m dead cap hit, comprising a $245k bonus overage, buried salary for Petersen ($3.85m), retained salary for Hayes ($3.6m), and buyouts for Atkinson ($2.4m) and DeAngelo ($1.7m).

This roster projection does not include a cap hit for Ryan Johansen, as his contract is currently terminated. If a settlement results in a cap hit for the Flyers, it will likely be applied retroactively.

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins' opening roster is $821k over the cap with 22 active players (14 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies).

On Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR): Nieto ($900k)
On Injured Reserve: Rust ($5.125m), Lizotte ($1.85m), Nedeljkovic ($2.5m)
On Season-Opening Injured Reserve (SOIR): Ponomarev ($8k)

Their LTIR relief with Nieto on LTIR is $79k short of optimal.

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals sent Hendrix Lapierre down before finalizing their opening roster, which is $9.03m over the cap with 21 active players (11 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies).

On Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR): Backstrom ($9.2m)
On Injured Reserve: Oshie ($5.75m)

They are $168k within optimal LTIR relief. Adding Oshie to LTIR could provide an additional $5.75m in cap space. However, since Lapierre wasn't included on the opening roster, his call-up would count for $1.1m against the cap due to his performance bonuses not being included in the initial LTIR calculation.

After adding Oshie to LTIR and calling up Lapierre, the team would have $4.64m of space within LTIR.

Western Conference

Central Division

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks' opening roster has $4.6m in projected cap space with 23 active players (14 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $21m annual cap hit at the trade deadline without making any moves.

On Injured Reserve: Landeskog, Lehkonen, and Poolman

They could place an injured player on LTIR, allowing them to exceed the cap by the player’s cap hit minus $44k.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars' opening roster has $2.4m in projected cap space with 21 active players (12 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies). They can fit a $10.8m annual cap hit at the trade deadline without making any moves.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers called up Savoie & signed Cameron Wright for $952K. When Wright is registered tomorrow, they will have $53 of Cap Space. Will then put Kane on LTIR and have a capture $53 from optimal.

Can send players down Wednesday & accrue space less $53.
