From the AHL to Siberia: Chase Priskie

Episode 15 of The PuckPedia Hockey Show features defenseman Chase Priskie, who joins to discuss his journey from being the first South Florida–born player drafted by the hometown Panthers to carving out a professional career across the NHL, AHL, and overseas. Priskie shares insights on his development, leadership, and the mindset needed to stay ready through the highs and lows of pro hockey.

“When I got drafted by the Panthers, it was surreal,” Priskie said. “Growing up going to their games and then putting on that jersey — it was something I never thought would actually happen.”

Priskie also opened up about the realities of professional hockey — how the business side can shape a player’s path and why he’s embraced every stop along the way.

“You realize pretty quickly that hockey’s a business,” he explained. “You have to focus on what you can control — your effort, your preparation, how you show up every day. Everything else is out of your hands.”

Now with years of experience across multiple leagues, Priskie reflected on what he’s learned about leadership and consistency, both on and off the ice.

“The best players I’ve been around bring it every single day — in the gym, in practice, in games,” he said. “It’s not just about talent. It’s about being a pro in every sense of the word.”

From draft day to international play, Priskie’s story is one of persistence, perspective, and pride in representing where he came from.
