Can Over 35 one year contract be buried?
Asked Jan 8, 2020 by Alex A
With Kovalchuk's $700K contract, since he's over 35, would the $700K remain with the team if he's waived and sent down?

For over 35 contracts, the cap hit for the signing team is only permanent if it's a multi-year deal. On a 1 year deal, if the player is waived and demoted, the cap hit is fully buried just like any other $700K contract. A 1 year 35+ contract is eligible for performance bonuses; the only other contracts eligible for performance bonuses are entry level and for players who have missed significant time due to injury.
