Tkachuk LTIR
Is Matthew Tkachuk eligible for LTIR and if so, what type of cap relief would that offer?
Answer
Any player is eligible for LTIR if they're going to miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days due to injury. The question of putting Tkachuk on LTIR is more of a strategic one for Florida. They are currently $538K Projected under the cap, so putting him on LTIR would allow them to exceed the cap by roughly $9M. If he'll be out for the remainder of the regular season, then it makes sense for them to do that and utilize the space for acquisitions. However, if he's expected back during the regular season, they would lose that space once he's activated, so they wouldn't be able to utilize that space in a meaningful way.
