What Is a Group 6 UFA?
When a player's contract ends with Restricted Free Agent (RFA) status, they become a Group 6 UFA if several conditions are met.

Age at Expiry
Players must be 25 years or older when their existing contract ends. Age is calculated on June 30th of the expiring contract year.
Maximum career NHL games played
To be Group 6 UFA eligible, a player must have played less than 80 career NHL games. For goalies this is 28 games with more than 30 minutes of ice time.
3+ Professional Seasons
A Professional Season is defined as any season where a player aged 18-19 plays in 11 or more Professional Games, and a player 20 or older plays 1 or more Professional Games. Age is calculated September 15th of that season. A Professional Game is a regular season or playoff game in the NHL, minor league (AHL/ECHL), or European professional while under an NHL contract.
