Buried Cap Hit

Asked Nov 1, 2022 by Curtis B
If a player on one way contract be placed on waivers and go unclaimed and send to the minors, how much of his contract is counted towards the teams cap hit? For example, a play who makes $3m/year and has a cap hit of $3m.

The maximum cap hit that can be buried in the minors this season is $1,125,000

This is based on a formula including the league minimum salary.
In the example, if a $3M cap hit player is sent down, $1.125M is saved, and the player still carries a $1.875M cap hit while in the minors.
