Do players signing extensions receive their signing bonuses right after they sign their extension, or is it the July 1st of year the contract kicks in?
Example: If a player signs an extension in 2023-2024 that will kick in for the 2024-2025 season, and said contract has a $2M signing bonus the first year, will the player receive that signing bonus upon signing the extension, or when the contract actually takes effect?

All compensation in a contract must be during the period when the contract is active. Therefore, the soonest a player can receive a signing bonus for an extension is July 1 when the contract officially becomes active and current.
