Sending player on IR to AHL

If a player is on IR and waiver exempt, is it possible to send him to the AHL, or are players on the IR unable to be reassigned to the AHL or elsewhere?

No, a player that is injured while on the NHL roster cannot be sent to the AHL (or bought-out). An injured player must stay on an NHL roster while injured. They could be traded, but the new team must also keep them on the NHL roster.
