Two contracts at same time
Asked Oct 16, 2024 by James P
I was wondering if two or more contracts could be signed at the same time? Example, L. Raymond signs one year 7 mil 2024, but also signs another contract commencing in 2025 for 7 years at 56 mil. ?

That won't work because if a player signs a 1 year deal, they are not eligible to sign an extension until January 1 of the next year. So if Raymond had signed a 1 year deal, he would have had to wait until January 1. Therefore, if a player remains a UFA until January, it's possible they could sign a contract for the remainder of that season plus a separate contract for the next season at the same time.
