If the senators and Nikita Zaitsev were to agree to a contract termination, would there be a cap recapture penalty? if there is, what would it be?

A player can have their contract terminated if the player and team both agree to it. The first step is the player being placed on unconditional waivers, where any team can claim them. After they clear, if the decision to terminate is mutual, then it can be terminated. If this happens, there is no cap penalty, the contract and cap hit just come off the books. The question is, why would Zaitsev agree to walk away from the close to $7 million remaining on his contract?
